Candi Henriquez

The Person I am... Candida

My life began on a warm sweet September evening. When the summer is fading and the fall is coming in.  I was named Candida Henriquez, eight pounds, tan and with a bundle of jet-black hair. My dark skin, black hair, curvy hips and evening eyes, shows my Spanish ethnicity. I speak Spanish, the language of my heart and ancestors, free and confident.

I also speak Spaglish, if you consider it a language. I come from a strong spiritual and traditional Latin culture. I am Chicana, first generation born here in the United States. A Chicano is neither Latin nor American, a Chicano is both, and we come from Latin descent but are raised here in the United States. I also consider myself Salvadorian, my family descents come form El Salvador. It is a small country in Central America between Guatemala and Honduras.  I was raised here in the warm, sandy Arizona. I have lived in Mesa my entire life. I grew up with a strong family, my father is a particular character, and I believe that is where I got my passion to serve.  I was taught at a young age to always help when every you could, my father planted the seed of services in me and over time it has only grown. My desire is change, change for this world we all live in. This is why I study Non-profit Organization Management to make that change, one step at a time.  I am simple person with a busy schedule. Running from Mesa to Phoenix everyday, but I do it for the love of ASU.  I listen to reggaton and dance to salsa but at the same time we like to rock out to English music. I am Candi, dominant, argumentative, intelligent, hardworking, loyal, hard to please, detailed, practical, always right (at least I try), passionate, loving, brown and beautiful. My duty here is to serve, helping others with what I can. I love my life and my place in it.
